Zombieland review

Film Title: Zombieland
Year of Production: 2009
Director: Ruban Fleisher
Genre: Zombie Comedy/ Horror

Brief plot outline:
A shy student trying to reach his family in Ohio and a gun-toting toughguy trying to find the last Twinkie and a paor of sister trying to get to an amusment park, all join forces to trvael across Zombie filled America.

Which two scenes impressed you most? Why?
1) The scene during the Introductory seqeunce when the character (Cloumbus) is doing the voice over, and you see a man comically sitting ona toilet in a gas station - hwne a zombie then appears under the door, you then get an outside shot of the stool with blood and feacal matter covering the floor. This scene is a great example of how body horror is used in the film both to create a comicaly scenario as well as horrify the audience into sheer disgust.
2)The second scene I enjoyed was where the character Tallahassee enters into a a supermarket and proceed to wail on Zombie's, with various melee weapons, in order to find his box of Twinkies. This scene uses some minimul but very effective body horror - again like the scene in the bathroom, it's to instill a sense of comedy as well as make the audience flinch at the slighlt sign of blood.

How has watching this film helped you understand this genre of filmmaking? Which features on the genre checklist did you spot in the film? When? How?
The Film being a comedy of sorts, does still include a number of the horror features, such as;
-Body horror, with the zombie deaths and the zombies eating people - again in the case of the guy in the gas station bathroom.
- The theme of Violence/Fear of death with the zombie attack and how the characters panic in the face of excessive amounts of zombies.
-Feeling outside the CDI, Columbus states how he feels different to everyone within the first 20 minutes of the movie, during the voice over sections - this shows that, despite the situation, he has reacted differently to those around him to it.
-Zombies have been made into quick moving monsters instead of the standard slow moving ones we'eve come to be familar with - this is the case in the introduction of the film where Columbus has to sprint in order to get away from a zombie to get to his car.

Which aspects of the film would you like to Include in your own Trailer? Why?

The fairly good body horror effec ts that are used throughout the film, as they are fairly convincing and can cause the audience to shudder on occassion due to how they are horrific - even if slighlty over-done at points such as the gas station bathroom scene - even though a good effect and really makes the audience shudder and feel shocked,t he sheer amount of blood and feacal matter is comical after the intial shock is warn off.

Which aspects of the film would you like to avoid in your own Trailer? Why?

The overuse of comedy and running gags that, when used thourhgout the film, can become tiresome and a drain on the audience as the film relies too heavily on them e.g. Tallahassee wanting his Twinkies. Even though certain horrro and comedy horror movies can and have pulled this off well, very few can do it without pissing off they're desired fan base - it's something that has to fit the movie and its theme, which in the case of zombie land and many others, it doesn't.

What was the best aspect/more enjotable moment in the film? Why? Can you recreat this in your own film? How?

The introduction with the voice over was, possibly, one of the most enjoyable aspects of the film. It have the sitation from the view of a single character (in a rather well done, comedic way) it kept me engrossed and entertained and drew me into the film through the use of the first person perspective. if done to cater to a specific audience/genre it can help make a movie/trailer , that much more enjoyable to watch.
